396. Where Are Your Accusers?

We take a look at the well-known story of the woman caught in the act of adultery. Why was she accused and what happened to her accusers? The devil is called the accuser of the brethren in one passage of scripture. But of the nearly 2 dozen references of accusers in the New Testament, almost all of them are religious people who were zealous for the Law. If you're looking to be accused of wrong doing, hang out with self-righteous religious people.

Yet Jesus did not accuse the accusers. Rather, He pointed out someone who did accuse them of not believing in Him. It turns out to be one of their heroes.

  1. It is the grace that sets people free from the religious bondage. I find it amazing that religious people say "sin no more, then God will receive you". Rather God has received you so sin no more. The focus should be on Christ receiving and not sin. Sin has been taken away by the spotless lamb!

  2. Yep, exactly, Mike... they've got it turned around! The foundation for us is God's love and acceptance of us, and that He has taken our sin away. From that point, we can move on with "go and sin no more." But as you say, in the religious world they're looking for people to "go and sin no more" and then God will accept them. That's the antithesis of the gospel.
