Are we to live by "good Christian morals"? Are we to live by a certain standard of right vs. wrong or good vs. evil? Is there a code of ethics that Christians are to live by?

If the original problem was that Adam ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (or "right and wrong") instead of the Tree of Life (Jesus), isn't it the Tree of Life that we want to now live from, rather than the knowledge of good and evil?

Here's this week's GIG-Bite, a quick sample of this week's program.

  1. I am contemplating a career in heresy. Thus, could one speculate that the Old Covenant (OC) was in effect based on the tree of the knowledge of good and evil? Since humans were living under that tree from the time of Adam & Eve, the OC was developed by God for the Israelites under those terms (i.e. did the OC possibly have its origins in the tree of the knowledge of good and evil or morality tree?). It doesn’t say that this tree was the ultimate evil, it just states that Adam and Eve (humans) were to stay away from this morality tree (not God’s overall purpose for them). God may have laid down some principles from this tree (OC) until the New Covenant (NC - God’s original intent/wish for humans). The Israelites (and everyone since) have verified that humans are unsuccessful in the morality tree gig. The Israelites (and a majority of the IC nowadays) seemed to have chosen morality over relationship (Deut 5: 24-27), just like A&E. So to my real question – under the OC would it be ok to sacrifice an aardvark instead of a bull if you first stapled some horns to its head?

  2. Jim, the age-old question of whether it's okay to sacrifice an aardvark instead of a bull has been debated for many moments (starting with your post). My personal opinion is that it IS okay under the New Covenant if the horns are stapled to it's head. If staples aren't available, use duct tape. Of course, this will do no good in regards to our identity in Christ nor will God respond to it in any way BUT you are free to make such a sacrifice.

  3. Thanks Kap for your reply. Your GIG podcasts are awesome and extremely important in solidifying the fuller implications of grace. This is the good news that has been lacking in much of the IC scene. Your conversations with Joel inspire a lot of post podcast thought and conversation, although occasionally some of the thoughts are aardvark weird (side effect?). Appreciate your insights greatly.
