442. Critics of Grace and The Words of Jesus

Recently, Growing in Grace podcasters Mike & Joel were criticized among other ministries of grace in a new book steeped in legalism. The attack stems from what the author views as "hypergrace." Specifically he accuses this ministry of "running" from the words of Jesus. Of course we have 9 years of recordings that would tell a different story. There are many things in the scriptures that weren't specifically spoken to us personally, but that doesn't mean we run from them. They are truths still meant to teach us a bigger truth (the gospel) and this week we'll address some of these things while attempting to provide proper context.

441. The Narrow Gate (Part 2)

Why did Jesus say the gate was narrow that leads to life? Perhaps it had something to do with the truth that Jesus Christ himself is the only way that leads to life. He is the door. No one comes to the Father except through Him. He is our entrance. Many sermons have pointed to the narrow gate as a call to a works-based performance. Before mentioning the narrow gate, Jesus had just finished a sermon covering 3 chapters in Matthew that showed the Jewish people the way of the law (works) would be impossible. Attempting to attain righteousness through works is a wide gate to enter but it brings destruction, not life.

440. The Narrow Gate (Part 1)

Jesus said, "Enter through the narrow gate... For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it." What comes to mind when you hear this? For many it will mean that we need to clean-up our lives and start doing the right stuff. But is this another one of those things Jesus said that is often taken out of context? It's interesting that Jesus said this near the end of His sermon on the mount. How does this compare in context to other things Jesus said regarding law and life? Listen in as we discuss the narrow gate and other words of Jesus as well.

In this podcast, we referenced a previous podcast episode that remains one of our most popular ones. It's entitled The Unattainable, Insurmountable, Unachievable Teachings of Jesus.

439. New & Improved Vs. Recreated

New life in Christ. We've become a brand new creation. What exactly does this mean for us? It's the reality in which we now live. Jesus actually became sin for us that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. You weren't just changed but rather you were recreated from nothing. The old life has passed away (died). Having passed from death to life, we can now experience freedom the way God meant for it to be.
