429. The Snare of Spiritual Self-Improvement

"I am a work in progress." A phrase that gets quoted by many in Christianity and it's usually in the context of us working to become better. The problem with this is that at any time in our Christian life when the focus becomes about us, we begin to place our trust in the wrong person. Often we try to "do better" in the effort to become more accepted by God. We miss the truth that we are already accepted and Christ has become our life. We are already in Him. He now works in and through us and whatever fruit we bear is His. In Him we have our being. In Him we are complete. In Him, we have been perfected.

428. Attitude Under Grace: Always Proclaiming God's Goodness

"God is good!" A phrase that gets thrown around a lot in Christian religious circles. Yet it shouldn't become just a catch-phrase for us. As we grow in grace and our understanding of the good news it becomes more of a reality that we can't be swayed from. Although we may not always understand why things happen the way they do, coming to the realization of the truth that God really is good (all the time) is a key component in regards to our attitude under grace.

427. Attitude Under Grace: Consent to Be Loved

We talk a lot about God's grace being given to us freely. As recipients, what should our mindset be? This week we discuss the proper attitude of being under grace. As our minds are renewed to the truth of the gospel, we come to a place where we consent to be loved. Although in and of ourselves we were not worthy, in Christ we have become worthy. You have indescribable value. We grow to know we are loved apart from any conditions on our part. We not only expect to be blessed but realize He has already blessed us with all spiritual blessings. Not because we have done anything to deserve it, but because He has freely chosen to bestow these things upon us.

426. The Nature of Grace: Once Bestowed, Never Withdrawn

God's act of grace towards mankind was an action completely independent from us, not dependent on us. Any failure of dedication or devotion on our part does not cause the withdrawal of bestowed grace under the New Covenant. Whether before or after the cross, one could never establish righteousness before God through our self-efforts and devotion. It's something we've been gifted with through the blood of Christ and the covenant established between Him and the Father. The entrance of grace did not arrive through a revolving door.
