378. The Gift of Believing

The gospel is so simple that it can be believed by anyone from anywhere in any walk of life. So this week we take a simple approach on some Bible ABC's (About Believing in Christ). This week our discussion leads us to look at how even the ability to believe (trust) in Jesus Christ is a gift. Faith isn't about trying harder to believe more. Faith is not about "how much" we believe but rather in "what" we believe. Understanding that God has offered and provided all of us with these gifts out of His love will allow people to simply respond with an open heart apart from fear. He did this freely, expecting nothing in return. All He wants is you.

377. Balancing Grace With...???

From time to time we get accused of being out of balance when it comes to grace. The question is: How can any of the good news of the gospel be shared apart from grace? Those who have been taught a more legalistic doctrine may be viewing grace as simply one topic out of many important "topics" to be discussed from the Bible. But grace is much more than a subject to be considered for an occasional topical study. It should not be something kept in the cupboard only to be brought out for an occasional meal or side dish. It is the essence of our life in Christ and (fortunately) can not be avoided regardless of what direction you want to go when it comes to the gospel.

You might also want to check out a related podcast entitled Grace...But that we recorded a couple of years ago, that we mentioned in this week's podcast.

376. Growing is Knowing (Who You Already Are)

Growing in God's grace is not about improved behavior. The foundation of growing has more to do with understanding our new identity in Jesus Christ and who He has already made us to be. Having our minds renewed to His gift of Life that He has freely given to us, knowing that we have already been given His righteousness and forgiveness and are fully acceptable to Him. Growing in this grace, knowledge and unconditional love will result in a response from us because of who we already are. Not out of fear or obligation or what we hope to become through our own fruitless efforts.

375. What It Means to Grow in Grace

The Apostle Peter encouraged believers to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. When we think of growing in grace, what will usually come to mind? Improving or modifying our behavior? Trying to do more for God? Working harder and hoping our efforts will be acceptable to Him? Praying and studying the Bible more? Perhaps it's much less complicated. Maybe it's more about rest. After all, grace and righteousness came to us apart from works.
