374. Truth by Itself Will Not Set You Free

Truth by itself will not bring freedom into our lives. In John chapter 8 Jesus stated it would be the knowledge of the truth that would make us free. This is why He told us to go and spread the good news, so people could know about it and begin to understand it and experience it. So what exactly does freedom mean and what is it we have been freed from? Our discussion this week reveals some exciting things about our freedom.

Merry Christmas from Kap and Joel!

As we mentioned at the end of last week's podcast, we are taking a break this week for the Christmas holiday.  There will be a brand new podcast next week, and in the meantime we want to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas!  Thanks so much for taking the time to listen to and share the Growing in Grace podcast.

Although we don't have a new episode this week, how about taking a trip back to a year ago when we were doing a little series about the law. On December 18th last year we posted an episode entitled When Did the New Covenant Begin?  Many people think of the New Covenant as beginning at the beginning of the books known as "the Gospels" (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John), or when Jesus was born. In this episode we looked at how a testament or covenant doesn't go into effect until the death of the testator.

We're looking forward to having a new episode next week, and some great discussions in the coming year as well!

373. The Reason God Gave the Ultimate Gift

When God gave mankind the gift of Himself, He provided us with something that would leave us in a place where He would never have to give again. Why? Because He gave the maximum. He gave all that could be given. He would enter the world Himself to bridge the former separation, to bring peace between us and Him and to wipe out judgment, fear and condemnation. What was His motivation for such a gift while expecting nothing in return? That's what our conversation centers around this week.

372. God Has Declared Peace With Mankind

Peace is a word that gets thrown around a lot. Quite often when peace is discussed it is something that is phony, imagined or temporary. Peace between men, nations and even in our own mind usually seems to turn into something that is elusive or uncertain. So how can we experience real peace? It starts with understanding one of the most important declarations in the Bible which came prior to Christ's birth. Peace that the world offers will fail. But the peace that comes from God Himself is something constant that we can all enjoy... all the time.

371. Avoiding the Morality Tree

The basis of the Christian life is not to attempt to live by Christian morals but rather we live by the very life of Christ. When Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, man entered the era of works. He would now determine good and evil on the basis of performance. God's life and grace in us can produce good works. But trying to focus on avoiding evil and doing good because we think we have an obligation to do so will only result in frustration, guilt and condemnation. There are two trees to choose from. Abide in the Tree of Life (Jesus).
