353. Covenant Confusion #3: The Covenant of Works (Curse) Vs. Promise (Inheritance)

God made a promise to Abraham about a sacrifice that would come through his Seed (Christ). The 1st covenant (law) came 430 years later and this old covenant had a purpose (to declare all guilty before God) but it did not annul the covenant of the promise through faith. The law was added until the Seed (Christ) should come. No single law could provide righteousness or justification. It brought a curse to all who were under it. Now it is through Him by faith (not law) we have received our inheritance. Fault was found in the 1st covenant and it's now obsolete. Jesus came to do the will of God which was to abolish the 1st covenant and establish the 2nd. The 1st was temporary. The 2nd is everlasting!

Struggling to Believe You Have a New Heart

Do you know the truth that the scriptures say that God has given you a new heart and a new spirit, and yet you struggle to live it out day by day, or to believe that your heart really is "good" and "noble"? Jim Robbins invited Joel to join him on his Good and Noble Heart podcast to discuss this.

The discussion should be of great encouragement to those who are wanting to be rooted and grounded in their identity in Christ. Check out Jim's post to see highlights of what we talked about and to listen to the podcast.

"If I really do have a good and noble heart, then why does the evidence seem to suggest otherwise?"

352. Covenant Confusion #2: Pick and Choose Which Laws to Follow

The problem with blending the teachings of the Old Covenant into New Covenant Christianity: It was commanded that the Jewish people obey and follow ALL of the laws. One was not more important than another. The hundreds of burdensome laws came together as one package known as The Law. If one is committed to keep any single law, then they are obligated to keep them all. Yet today we see religion saturating the church by cherry-picking selective Old Covenant teaching and blending it with New Covenant truth. The 1st was a covenant that failed from the beginning (as it was meant to do), and mixing it together with the New Covenant only adds to its failure.

351. Covenant Confusion #1: 1st Covenant Has No Place in the Christian Life

It has caused more churches and believers to miss the mark as much as anything: Not understanding the difference between the Old Covenant and the New. Indeed the 1st covenant had a purpose, yet confusion and misunderstandings prevail due to a combination of the old and new being taught as if they belong together. The old covenant (law) was never God's will. This will be the first podcast in a sequence of many where we examine the good news of the new covenant and why the old covenant has no place in the lives of believers today.

350. So What's Wrong With Teaching a Series About Grace?

Perhaps you've heard a minister state they will be teaching a series on the grace of God or you may have attended a Bible study or small group doing the same. Why do we take issue with this? The implication is that we study God's grace briefly only to leave it behind while moving onto the next topic of study. Grace is so much more than that. So our "subject" this week is...

You guessed it. Grace. It's the last in our series. Starting next week, that program will then become the last, and so on.

349. Thoughts on Thinking

Thinking. Ironically, it might not be something we think about very much but obviously it's a big part of our everyday lives. Sometimes thinking can be a friend to us and other times not so much. How can a renewed mind help our thought process? If you're thinking about not listening to this week's podcast, think again.

The new life and freedom we have in Christ is a reality that came quickly and already belongs to us. It's a part of who we are in our spirit. We grow in the knowledge of these things by having our minds renewed to the truth and this is an ongoing process.
